Subject: [ACE] ACE contributions tax deductible after June 4 2002!!
Friends, Roman Coin Enthusiasts, and Countrymen;
I am writing to you all on behalf of Ancient Coins for Education, or ACE,
which is pleased to announce that we have successfully
incorporated and are now able to offer Charitable Contribution Tax Deduction
receipts to all who donate from today forward. The newly-formed Board of
Directors and our Corporate Officers wish to extend our heartfelt thanks
to John Ryan for his pro bono work on the incorporation, and to the many
donors who gave us a reason to do it.
As many of you are aware, the Ancient Coins for Education project, during the 2001-2002 school year, distributed over 2000 coins to some 40 schools across the United States. These coins were mostly uncleaned coins, or 'as-dug' coins, but fully restored coins were also distributed. The recipient schools used the coins as a fun and hands-on way to enhance the curricula of Latin and Ancient History classes.
Our objective for the 2002-2003 school year is to serve 50 schools nationwide and to establish one or more ACE Pilot Program(s) in a country other than the United States. Obviously this ambitious goal will send us to the numismatic community hat-in-hand again, but with the opportunity to receive credit on your tax bill for your donation, we know this objective CAN be met. With your participation it WILL be met.
The response from the students and teachers was tremendous, and many of the schools chose to submit their best student essays to our Grand Finale Essay Contest. Every type of essay was submitted, from fantasy stories set during the reign of the Emperor on the coin the child received, to steely-cold technical analyses of the coins that would make you believe the student were an experienced numismatic. These essays were converted to a web-usable format and posted to the ACE website by William Peters, ACE's Secretary/Treasurer, and are still available for your viewing pleasure at http://www.bitsofhistory.com/ace/judge.html
If you would like to see what the next generation of numismatics are doing today, I would heartily encourage a visit to the site.
We are bringing ancient history to life, awakening children's minds, and encouraging students to pursue Classical studies. Aside from the social benefits, this program will be a great help to the numismatic community by ensuring that students are introduced to our hobby or profession. As a collector, you have the opportunity to inspire the next Cohen and as a dealer, you have the opportunity to invest in your future buyers today. Come, join us in our project with a donation of coins or reference materials you've outgrown, or even good ole cash. You will feel great and now, you get a tax writeoff, too!
Warm Regards,
MIKE DALKA
